Settling In
So when I moved back down here to Philly, I had to leave some stuff behind … mainly, all my clothes, CD’s (yes I still keep all those space-takers), and some kitchen stuff. My friend is going to be bringing all of it on Friday morning. The studio is all situated minus some connections but all-in-all, I am almost all settled in. When I originally moved here four years ago, I moved here to make music. About the only thing I did make was my studio. While I did learn many new things, I didn’t get much music written.
But I am looking at this time as a fresh start. I know what type of job to get, and I also know that I don’t need to make a ton of money to just pay my bills. I have ensured that I will be able to pay my bills in these tough times because I have essentially downsized. The apartment that I moved into is a studio for example. So tomorrow I have an interview at a good restaurant in Center City; on Saturday there is a job fair for a new restaurant that opened up right by me.
There are people that I know down here, but that is the extent of my that. So to a degree, this a fresh start, a new beginning. A new chapter is happening in my life and over the next three months I plan on getting an album completely written and recorded. Hopefully I will meet new people, make some friends, but I can’t say I am going to be much of a socialite. Time will be spent doing what I originally came here to do.
I know I am talented but rusty; I know that I have the knowledge to be able to do this, but I also know that I have much to learn; I know that I have the ability because I believe in myself and no one can change that.
I am inviting anyone who wishes to join me on this adventure, and follow my updates. This blog of mine will be a written record of the process of recording my debut album. My project/band name is “…years prior”.
I believe that we are living in a time of great importance. People are connecting, technology is evolving at a very fast rate, knowledge of practically anything is available to most people … becoming synonymous by the phrase “google it.” Global awareness and concern for the environment has become a concern for many; the economy of the world is … well, that goes without saying; and the state of the world is far from being at peace.
Life is not easy; everyone has their own unique circumstances and issues that they have to overcome. Everyone has a past, and as for mine it was always music that saved me. Ask the person next to you or through a iChat, Facebook, MySpace, etc., “what was the band they listened to during their darkest/ or hardest times.” I guarantee that they name some band or artist. For me it was Nine Inch Nails; and to this day it still is amongst others like David Bowie, Radiohead, Joy Division, and Brian Eno. Eno’s music brings a sense of calmness and comfort. Some people might even say that if it wasn’t for music or some band, they don’t know if they’d be here today. Yes this is dark, but it is the cold-hearted truth. My mission is to do for someone else through my music what the bands before me did for me. The missions starts now, as I begin recording the master tracks.
